Chinese Super League

The China Football Association Super League (CSL) is the top soccer league in China. It was launched in May 2004. It now has a total of 16 teams while at the beginning there were only 12 squads. The teams play each other on a home and away basis with the bottom two teams suffering relegation (no relegation in 2004 and 2005). The top two teams gain access to the AFC Champions League, while the CSL champions also win a place in the pre-season East Asian Champions Cup.

It seems that the Chinese people are getting pretty intense about their soccer teams. With the promises of the biggest TV market on earth the future seems to look very bright for the Chinese Super League and the National team.

The winning team was earning a whopping 500,000 USD in prize money for the final round of the EAST ASIAN FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP 2008 and a total of 1,150,000 USD total prize money was distributed to the top 4 finishers.

The Women's competition was rewarded for a total of 115,000 USD for the top 4 teams which is a mere 10 % of what the men's teams received. I guess the competition level is not the same.
